I Want One!

Two absolutely adorable clouded leopard (see left; thanks to the zoo's Web site) were born at the National Zoo's Conversation and Research Center in Front Royal, VA, (note to self: figure out how to get in) on March 24. It's pretty much a miracle, too, for three reasons: they're a super endangered species; male clouded leopards in captivity normally kill their mates after mating; and mommy clouded leopards in captivity tend to turn cannibalistic on their young. Crazy, right?

These two cuties have no names yet and their sex will be determined after their first vet exam. They won't be on exhibit either. (Hence plan to find a way into the center.) They were born to Jao Chu and Hannibal, both from Thailand, and are the first babies born at the zoo in 16 years.

I wanted to share a video of them, but something is apparently wrong with the embedding code (blah, blah, blah). So if you want to see it, check it out here. Mad adorable.
